Summer Highlights

Expanding our community. Furthering awareness about Upower. Working out with great people. This pretty much sums up what we did over the summer.

Highlights included our classes at Rainier Beach and Franklin High Schools. Teens at both locations showed up regularly and worked really hard. Their efforts and enthusiasm were inspiring and rewarding to see!

More best moments were being part of the Seattle Mariner’s Battle at the Ballpark — a day at Safeco Field featuring teams competing in CrossFit workouts. Our volunteers were there to help out and spread the word about what we do. Importantly $5 of each ticket purchased was donated to Upower!

In July, we teamed with the Seattle Storm and Beecher’s Pure Food Kids Foundation to share the importance of eating healthy and staying active with the grade school-aged girls attending Girls Power Forward — a leadership academy put on by the Storm Foundation in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Urban Native Education Alliance.

We made our presence known at the Rainier Valley Heritage Parade & Festival and Seattle Police Department’s Picnic In the Precinct in Columbia City. Officers, kids and just about everyone in between stopped by to try a workout and find out more about us. Even Seattle Mayor Ed Murray commended all hard work going down inside the Upower tent!

Thank you Reuben’s Brew for supporting Upower on your Thank You Thursday. Each Thursday, this popular Ballard taproom hosts a nonprofit and donates $1 from each beer sold to that organization. Additionally, we were able to introduce Upower to a new group of people. It was the perfect end to a productive summer!
