Upower has joined the Sound Food Uprising! The brainchild of the Beecher’s Foundation, this 10-year consumer education campaign aims change the demand for unhealthy food in the Puget Sound area through education, cooking, and advocacy.
Uprising staff members attend select Upower classes – equipped with cutting boards, utensils, a portable oven, and groceries. They set up cooking stations and provide hands-on instruction on things like chopping vegetables efficiently all while teaching our teens about food system history and nutrition. Everybody shares in the kitchen responsibilities and classes wrap up with a group meal.
Thank you Beecher’s Foundation for launching this movement. It’s a great way to educate and empower teens to challenge the way food is manufactured and deceptively marketed.
