For years, Upower has been on a dedicated mission to connect professional athletes with young people navigating the justice system, knowing the profound impact these encounters can have. Last week, this vision became a reality as the Seattle Seahawks made an unforgettable visit to Echo Glen Children’s Center, marking the culmination of years of dreaming, persistence, and powerful partnerships.

On Monday October 21, 2024, Seattle Seahawks players DK Metcalf, Noah Fant, Coby Bryant, Tyler Mabry, AJ Barner and even, Blitz arrived at Echo Glen. Greeted by the entire Upower staff, the players brought more than their game-day energy—they brought open hearts, encouragement, and a sense of belonging that resonated deeply with the youth. DK accepted push-up challenges, Tyler left with youth artwork, and by the end, each player was already asking to return.

Some highlights to share:

AJ was taken to visit some youth in their units, where he witnessed their excitement as they showcased their artwork in their rooms. He made note of the pride they took of the cleanliness of their spaces.

In a particularly meaningful moment, DK sat down with a student for a one-on-one talk, where they both were deeply engaged in a private conversation. The following week, this student approached Coach Liv and excitedly mentioned “his best friend DK,” highlighting the strong connection they formed during their conversation.

Upower provides programming across nine King County sites. Upower has been partnered with Echo Glen Children’s Center since 2018 serving over 1,800 youth from across Washington state. We chose Echo Glen for this special visit because young people in the justice system are often overlooked, especially as the holiday season approaches—a time that can be especially challenging for those separated from their families. This visit sent a powerful message: *we see youwe believe in youand so does your community.*

As Upower continues our mission, these moments highlight the incredible power of showing up, and remind us all of the profound impact of hope, connection, and community support for our young people.
