A Message from Upower’s New Executive Director

July 1, 2021

Hi Upower Community!

I am thrilled and excited to announce my promotion to Upower’s Executive Director; don’t worry Martha Moseley will still be coaching and Upower’s board President. As I transition from Upower’s Director of Special Projects to Executive Director, I wanted to share a little about me.

My name is Leighla Webb and I have been working with Upower for three and half years. I began with Upower as an AmeriCorps’s Up2Us coach building out Upower’s program inside King County Juvenile Detention. After completion of my AmeriCorps term I was hired on as Upower’s Director of Special Projects where I managed grants, fundraised, built Upower’s Toolkit and managed various other projects. Some of you may know me best from my pestering Dodgeball emails (get ready, Dodgeball 2021 is coming).

I have an undergraduate degree in Community Psychology and a Master of Arts in Policy Studies from UW. My education has equipped me well to take Upower into our next phase, focusing on equity and PLAY! My deep belief in the healing power of play and working within community has been my northstar throughout my career. I love working with youth and I believe if we all played a little more, the world would be a better place.

Lastly, I want to express my immense gratitude to Martha Moseley for believing in me and allowing me to guide her baby, Upower, into our next life cycle. I also want to thank Upower team and board members for believing in our mission and doing the work.

Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to meet, chat about Upower or just introduce yourself.

Just keep playing,

Leighla Webb (she/her)
