More Students Reached, Community Partnerships Strengthened, Funding Goals Surpassed

Happy New Year! The year 2019 was big for Upower. It marked our fifth anniversary providing underserved teens access to fitness & wellness classes and resulted in some exciting milestones.

Upower set an all-time fundraising record, made possible by generous individual, foundation, corporate, and grant support.

We expanded our geographical reach by offering classes at Echo Glen Children’s Center in Snoqualmie and at Albert Talley High School in Skyway. Upower classes were taught at 10 locations in King County overall – our highest number of locations yet!

In 2019, Upower provided 86,250 fitness minutes and served 386 new students. These numbers bring the accumulative tally to 238,010 fitness minutes and 2,282 students served since Upower classes began in early 2014.

Community partnerships were also a key part of our year. We continued our work with great organizations like The Beecher’s Foundation Sound Food Uprising to educate our students on creating healthy food habits.
